Candace Hunter fell in love with words as a young girl. She secretly harbored a dream of becoming a published author through out childhood and young adulthood. Her first books were instruction manuals of a highly technical variety, but at home when no one was looking, she was writing an array of fiction and non-fiction.

Today, her love for plants, nature, and magic have propelled her into writing for The Practical Herbalist online. Her columns “Herbalism for the Zombie Apocalypse” and “Herbs for Athletes” are available monthly. Her History, Folklore, Myth, and Magic articles are destined to become part of a larger work as are her columns. She is currently working on an herbal memoir with her writing partner, Sue SierralupĂ©, and publishing new volumes of The Practical Herbalist’s Herbal Folio series.

Herbalism has become an indelible part of Candace’s lifestyle. She’s practical in her approach to using plants to care for herself and family, favoring a jump-in-with-both-feet attitude over the perhaps wiser but slower learn-everything-there-is-to-know-before-trying-it approach that seems common in our modern society.

Her work with The Practical Herbalist was inspired by the many questions she’s gotten from folks of the latter mindset who’ve had a hard time getting started. She says that herbalism is the medicine of the people. In that vein, she began pod casting with The Practical Herbalist team. She co-hosts on Real Herbalism Radio, a bi-weekly podcast on herbs, homesteading, and the herbal lifestyle.

When Candace isn’t working with words, she enjoys creating fiber arts including quilted works, handspun yarn, and knitted and crocheted pieces. She lives with a big, crazy dog; a loud yellow-naped Amazon; a dignified Bearded Dragon; and her husband and son.
